Mountain men romance books are my go-to — especially on a rainy porch day, or when I’m stuck deep in a reading slump and nothing else sounds right. There is something about this subgenre that just fixes things. It’s the perfect amount of cozy warm hug: rugged men in flannel, a whole lot of grunting, and that grumpy sunshine trope I will never, ever get tired of. Grumpy to the whole world, soft for her only. I don’t make the rules, I just really love them.
These are my four and five star reads — the ones that had me swooning through every page. And I picture you reading them curled up on the couch, under a warm blanket, hopefully next to a fire. As for the drink — wine or tea, that choice is yours to make. I’m not here to tell you how to live. I’m just here to tell you what to read.
🌲 If You Want to Start with a 5-Star Guarantee
Loved by the Mountain Man and Cherished by the Mountain Man, both by Sadie King — when my friends ask me where to start on their mountain man journey, this is where I tell them to begin. Both are five stars on my Goodreads. They’re grumpy-sunshine done so right it almost hurts, and you will fall in love with the characters just as much as you’ll fall in love with Sadie’s writing. Trust me… this is where you want to start.
🪵 If You Want a Whole Series to Devour
I read Property, Owned, Kept, Claimed, and Saved by the Mountain Man back to back like it was my full-time job — which, for that week, it kind of was. Gemma Weir wraps you in a warm blanket with her writing. Each book stands alone but they’re connected, and every mountain man in this series is just… grunting, broody, and soft in all the right ways. Four stars across the board, and honestly I could keep going.
🏔️ If You Like a Little Authority with Your Flannel
Tessa Klein’s The Boss of the Mountain and The Recluse of the Mountain bring a whole lot of tension. You know that feeling of hmm, are we sure about this man? Are we supporting this? — and then you turn the page and fall completely in love anyway. These broody men will have you questioning your own judgment in the best possible way. They consistently make me want to move somewhere with no cell service and a very large fireplace. Solid four-star reads.
🔥 If You Want Protective and Possessive (In a Good Way)
Protected by the Mountain Man by Khloe Summers and Mountain Boss by S.J. Tilly — these are the next step, for once you realize you love mountain men just as much as I do. These men will throw you over their shoulder, and they will also protect you until their last dying breath. Four stars, deeply satisfying, and exactly what you’re here for.
